OVERLAND DESTINATIONS

Very new here; spots around Spokane??

Hey all, very new here and to the world of overlanding. Looking for some easy mild trails around Spokane for me and the family to start getting our feet wet with going offroad and camping in backcountry type settings. Just have a fairly stock 01 Ram 1500 with muds and a leveling kit, hence why wanting to keep the trails mild. Looking for somewhere close we can drive to and have a great overnight on the weekend camp in a cool spot.

Thanks in advance for all your advice on spots. We will eventually be doing the BDR here in WA as well as ID but want to work up to those and plan time off to do so. For now just looking for some quick weekenderlanding overnight spots.

Thanks again and so glad I’ve found this!

Great spots all along the Priest River, pretty easy access and great views.

Tony -VS- The Volcano

So, the other day, I was wrapping up the attendees list to the TNT2021 trip and noticed that there were a couple members who had committed to the trip, but had not yet formalized their attendance.

I reach out to them to request they sign up and our good friend, Tony, replied back that he was kind of busy at the moment.

I thought to myself, "Well, no big deal. He can just sign up when he gets a moment. Then he sent be a short video of what he was preoccupied with! WOW!

Yep, Good ole' Tony was caught at the site of Iceland's, Geldingadalir volcano during a peak eruption! CRAZY!!!

Tony also sent a couple pictures of his adventure vehicle on a Tundra Expedition while in Iceland. We chatted a bit and will probably schedule this for next year.

Recommendations for overland/dispersed camping around Cottonwood Canyon or the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument?

Hi! Our family is looking for some options for overland or dispersed camping around the Cottonwood Canyon area, or maybe in the area around the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

We're considering some possible trips with extended family, possibly two pickups with trailers and a Land Rover with Rooftop Tent, all equipped for boondocking. But as we've talked to BLM and other campground managers, they've seen a lot more pressure even in the back country since Covid. So we're looking for options that might be less known.

If you have recommendations in either of these areas, I'd be interested in locations and what you enjoyed about the experience.

We don't need technical trails, but are looking forward to exploring Oregon's outdoors.

Thank you!

Jason

Hi Jason,

There are a lot of tucked away spots in that area. The trouble is, finding them. Right?

I know of one spot in particular in that area. I just have to remember where it is! However, it should be accessible to pickup/trailer combinations.

Let me dig up a few pictures and Lat/Longs and I will post it up here.

Cruise Moab April 12-18

This morning registered for Cruise Moab, April 12-18. Cruise Moab is a sanctioned event by TLCA and hosted by Rising Sun 4WD club in Colorado. This will be our first trip to Moab, Arches & Canyonlands NP, so wife and I are stoked... been on our bucket list for a while.

Trail selection sign ups is in early March. I am looking for trail recommendations from the NWOL forum. I have the Moab Guide book 3rd Edition plus other trail ratings and reviewing YouTube. Looking for the more scenic trials (4, 5 & ~6- trail ratings)... need to drive home! Guided trails are 14th - 17th.

Give me your top 3 trails recommendations. If anyone is attending the Easter Jeep Safari in March, I would also like your restaurant recommendations and Moab must see's.

Looking forward in hearing your suggestions. Thank you in advance.
