In ACTIVITY/TRIP PLANNING
We're planning a 2-week Colorado adventure for this summer. What are the must see/driven/camped areas? Thanks, David

In WRENCHING - HOW TO
Has anyone else upgraded their tires to 35" on a stock (suspension, wheels) JLUR? I'm trying to figure out which tire size will get me to 35", fit on the stock wheels, and still fit nicely in the wheel wells. I can look at tire size calculators to do some analysis, but it is hard to know what will fit on these wheels. I'm wondering if 35x12.5R17 will work. Also, any feedback on Nitto Ridge Grapplers? I wanted to go with a hybrid tire (AT tread and MT sidewall). Also considered Toyo. Thanks, David

In ACTIVITY/TRIP PLANNING
Although I don't get the day off for Veterans day, school is out and my rule is when my kid has a day off, I take a day off. I'm thinking of doing another day of off-roading with that time. Last time, I went to Tahuya and had the entire park to myself; it was fabulous. I think I might do that again, but I'm also open to other destinations. I only have the 1 day to spend, I don't want to drive more than a couple of hours (from the Kirkland area), and I probably want to stay out of the higher altitudes to avoid snow/ice. Is anyone else interested in a day trip for off-roading?

I went on Friday. It was my first trip. It is fun to test the rig and explore. I didn't have a great map experience, and am figuring that out now. I just grabbed the dashcam video from this trip. It was rainy and the wife didn't feel up to filming us from outside the vehicle. Next time!

In OVERLAND DESTINATIONS
I'm looking at doing a couple sections of the WABDR in mid-August, probably 1-2. I'll (2019 JLUR) be joined by friend with his rig (4runner), but neither of us have been on the WABDR before. I have some questions and I hope you can help answer them. I don't know how sections 1-2 compare to the sections further north. Assuming we only have 2-4 days available, are these sections recommended? How many miles per day can one expect to reasonably complete? Not aiming for an all out race, nor ambling on - a reasonable pace to see the views and account for other traffic. Does one need to bring extra fuel, or are there ample opportunities to fuel up in between sections? What is the best navigation guide? Anything I can print, etc.? Thank you kindly. :) - David

Last week I picked up our long-awaited camper trailer, just in time for these summer activities. I drove over 4k miles to pick it up and bring it back from Exploration Outfitters in Mead, OK. I stopped in Cortez, CO to see Mesa Verde, and in Moab, UT to run a quick trail up to Gemini Bridges (with the trailer in tow). This is the new hard-top model - the 2nd sold in the US. It has an integrated solar panel on top. Here are some pictures of the set up. We'll be bringing it to NWOR. If you haven't seen one and are curious, feel free to stop by our campsite and I'd be happy to show you around. Cheers, David

So, I wasn't sure where to post this. It could have possibly fit in any one of several forums, but I decided to put it here because of how it helps me attach/detach this heavy bike rack to the Jeep for a bike trip (simple bike ride, camping, etc.). After recently putting in a hoist for the hard top, and looking for a place to put the new, massive, heavy bike rack I thought, "why not hoist it to the ceiling too?" I realized it would make for a very easy attach/detach when I wanted to use it, too. Here's an album of the pictures steps taken.

In MUST HAVE - SAFETY
Apologies if there is a better forum for this. I perused them, and didn't find an obvious fit. I see several youtubers talk about what they use for navigation when off the beaten path, but I'm curious what you all use and what device you use. My family's devices mostly runs on Windows, and I was wondering if I could run the popular apps on a Surface Go. What device do you use? How do you mount it? Pictures are welcome! Cheers, David

In INTRODUCE YOURSELF
Hi folks - Just joined. I'm a mid-40s software developer, PNW native, and camping enthusiast. I have a wife who isn't super into camping, but will do it to see the joy in our 6-year old boy's face. I got my first Jeep Wrangler (JLUR) in January (not my first 4x4) and I'm aiming to do some overlanding starting this spring. I have a Patriot X1-H on order (due in May), with the goal of making camping a lot more comfortable for the Mrs. and a lot less work for setup and tear down. Cheers, David P.S. Here are pics of the family and our new rig.
