In WRENCHING - HOW TO
Anybody have a nice bidirectional scan tool that can do a crank case relearn on GM (2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD)? I'm in Normandy Park which is just south of Burien. I'd like to either borrow it or spend a few minutes of intimate time with your scan tool in your driveway. I'd bring you the beverage of your choice. I'm holding off putting in a new crank case position sensor until I figure out where I'll get the relearn done. Like to avoid dealership or mechanic if at all possible. Though if you have a recommendation of a local pro that could do it quick, good and cheap....

In INTRODUCE YOURSELF
Hi! I'm Jim Weller. I lived in Alaska for 25 years. My family of four moved to Seattle at the end of 2016. I have a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl that I love to take on adventures. I work in IT at REI in Kent. We live in Normandy Park (Burien-ish). I'm an outdoor enthusiast who loves to camp, hike, bike, boat and fish. I grew up off the grid on a homestead in the mountains of New Mexico. I love making stuff, fixing/breaking stuff, building, and learning new things. I'm new to the area and overlanding. I've done a lot of subaru/truck treks that might qualify as overlanding, but now I'm getting serious. I'm working on building out my 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab (e.g Alaska station wagon) to be a self contained overland camping rig. No wall climbing or anything exotic. Just getting the family out and about to where the throngs dare not drive. I am looking to find friends and mentors in the PNW. My current build projects are getting my recovery kit/mounts together, building a truck bed sleeper with drawers, and adding a second battery for truck bed house power.

In WRENCHING - HOW TO
Good afternoon NWOLs! I wanted to get some guidance and ideas on mounting bolt on d-ring shackles to either my custom grille guard or stock front bumper. I started to order these 1" w/ back plate. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bumper-Shackle-Mounts-Backing-Plate-Clevis-d-ring-Jeep-4x4-Off-Road/282922934193 But I did not have enough confidence about where to mount them. The plates are too big for the front face of the grille guard and I'm not sure if mounting to the bumper is wise. The grille guard is 1/2" plate mounted to the frame where the tow hooks were. The bumper is stock. I'm planning on a winch. Thoughts? Thank you for any guidance!
