Wow. I've been on that trail in my jeep. I can't imagine how nerve racking that was for the driver. Glad he made it through with only a little scrapes.

I hate mosquitos too. I have 4 kinds of insect spray. One of those thermal butane repellents. Mosquito candles and i dont hesitate to use it all! Ive learned where to camp over time where mosquitos dont live. Usually high up in the mountains away from any standing water. And no, you don't have to camp. This isnt the boyscouts, you're not missing out on necessary patches and ribbons in order to be a true Overlander. You can stay in motels. And as far as remoteness, try air bnb or something similar. I have rented peoples cabins for a night in the middle of nowhere. only have to go a few miles out of my way to get to them and stayed deep in the woods the whole time. Get out there on your own time and in your own way. Dont be afraid to go with strangers. And dont be afraid to stop going with people who have different ideas of what Overlanding is to them. @T.J. Purdy lol, good eye. Yeah that was super cringe. Luckily my dads front driveline gave out before the body mounts. The driver of the YJ ended up jumping in the water after that to hook a winch line to the front bumper.

@T.J. Purdy yeah that was a hell of a day. I have the full video of that entire trip to tahuya on my youtube. It was 20 minutes into the trip, my buddy sank his YJ on 37s. Spent the rest of the day changing oil trying to get the water out of the motor.

Yes yes. I followed your write up on that trip and was curious, did anybody try lowering the air pressure of the tire to like 8-10psi? I had an experience with similar mud once where i was running super swamper TSLs at about 14psi and they were filling up and acting like slicks. And just for science sake i kept dropping the PSI to see if it made a difference and sure enough at about 8psi the tread started emptying naturally and made a huge difference in my traction. Of course i was in a safe place to be running that psi, I'm not sure if i would be so bold to air down that much in the middle of nowhere.

I run 34x11.50 Ko2s and have run a couple different ATs as well as MTs and the Ko2s are my favorite tire so far. Not a ton of road noise and perform fantastic in just about every condition save for deep mud. Which my final decision for going with the Ko2s over the KM3s was that i do a lot more highway with the JLu then i ever did with the YJ and at the end of the day i would rather be pulling cable in the mud then in the snow. I probably have done 1% of my driving in the mud overall because the mud is usually at the bottom of deep water holes and i don't want to sink my carpet. Hope that helps a little.

so you guys think it is a terrible idea? this is the first i am hearing of it and i like the idea of taking the load off my phone. between taking pictures, videos, apps, and GPS, and pre downloading maps, and switching apps from tracking to navigation. its just too much. i thought it might be nice to have a dedicated GPS that already has everything downloaded and ready to go. thoughts?

I had a fascinating development today. last night i pulled the antenna to test a couple of symptoms to get more information about what might be causing it. did not learn anything new. but when i put the antenna back on i put it on significantly tighter (not thread breaking tight but tighter then it was) because i didnt plan on taking it off again anytime soon (since my next step was to start deploying ground straps) and i cannot get the interference to come back. i'm not yet 100% convinced that problem is "SOLVED". but i didn't get one blip of interference in an hour long commute. suffice to say that i didn't use the handheld at all to test, and didn't go around channel skipping or anything. So I either fixed the antenna or broke it. lol

@John Russell good find on that forum Fyr196 is for sure having the same issue as me just on a different channel. i think its almost time to just buy a 20 pack of ground straps and just go crazy with them

i have a dash cam but it isn't in the jeep right now. cb but it isn't plugged in to power right now Arb twin compressor under the hood not wired through the firewall 6 overhead offroad lights wired through the dash 2 front offroad lights but not wired through the dash i think that is it for electrical. I've played with them toggling them off and on and neither seem to make a difference to the static

It doesnt make a difference what speed the engine is. and the last 2 days i've been playing with it on my commute and it has become more more sporadic than before. and as i pulled into the driveway today and parked pressing the brake lights was making it do it. but i do not have LED tail lights.

@Aaron Kravik well the jeep JL fans are obnoxious and do whatever they want. including full jet engine mode at the smallest hint of over heating. it is possible that they are being triggered during normal operations once the jeep warms up to normal temp to keep it from going to high. and i see what you are saying about the transmission ground now. that would have been my assumption as well. i read it wrong the first time. i don't think it would hurt to throw a ferrite choke on the base units lead. but why would that effect the handheld radio? and i have run the handheld without the base unit off and gotten the same static. so it cant just be the power lead can it? i read the article John Russell posted and the only thing that seems to make sense is maybe the exhaust system and the hood need better grounding? it is obviously the vehicle causing the problem, just need to figure out what

is that a question? i know we talked about this already and i checked my grounds and they are very strong. but even if they were not. it wouldn't effect the handheld would it? and the fact that it builds up over time and not right away. actually my dad and i were talking and he thinks it might be interference from an electric fan. which makes sense. cause this jeep is fan crazy when it wants to be. question is, what would i do about that?
