On a trip to Death Valley this spring I noticed all the overland vehicles and have been enamored ever since. I don't have a vehicle et but am looking at starting my project this year. My daily is a Subaru Baja which I think would look really cool converted to an overlander, but wouldn't be very practical at all. I almost took a dive on a LandCruiser with 300k on it, and then realized I needed a lot more information and friendly advice from folks in the know before I struck out on any project.
I look forward to learning from you all!
Depends on which Land Cruiser. An 80 series will probably have some engine issues at that mileage. The 3F and 1FZ were both known for head gasket issues. A 100 would be about as solid as could be (if maintained).
Also, welcome aboard!
Welcome. Vehicle projects are always fun, especially for a group of enablers, egging you on to dive deeper down the rabbit hole of goodies and modifications :-).
A well serviced LandCruiser with 300k is very likely a vehicle that will still have a lot of life in it. Can depend on what part of the country it spend most of it's life in. East coast, may have rust issues. No matter what, a lot will have to be (or should be) gone through and replaced (stay with OEM Toyota parts for everything you can). Doesn't mean it all has to happen at once. I just lead some trail rides at the rally with a 4Runner with 351k, a LandCruiser is a lot stouter vehicle
