I've been watching this site for awhile and finally decided to join. My wife and I live between Sequim and Port Angeles on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. We've explored every ungated (and occasionally gated) road from Port Townsend to Ocean Shores with great enthusiasm and joy. Mr. T, my 1993 Toyota T100, although lacking in power, has served us very well for the most part. It has a four inch lift with 33s pushed by a diminutive 3 liter V6. I gutted and rebuilt the 1988 4wheel camper, utilizing wasted space, getting rid of all the soggy "crap" wood and making it more indicative of overlanding. Yes, I'm usually the oldest guy with the oldest rig!
On the way back from Arizona, I did a little wandering around Cherry Creek, Nevada and found an abandoned railroad, water tower and three very lost coal cars. I also found the stickiest, gooiest, gumbo-mud I have ever had the misfortune to come across. I jumped (mostly fell) out of my truck to turn in the hubs and within five steps, I was four inches taller!
I'm on my way to Flagstaff to the Overland Expo tomorrow (off to a slow start). ...had a blast last year!
I've tried other types of rigs, some pretty radical, but with 90% of most trips taking place on pavement, I have had to make appropriate concessions. Because of previous problems, I don't have a lot of unsecured gear on my truck and camper which can create an attractive nuisance. Although, I prefer to be camped out in the middle of nowhere, sometimes I find myself city bound, so my setup must be versatile. For me, it's not the destination, it's the journey!
Howdy and welcome! That rig looks fun and functional! Look forward to running into you
You gotta start somewhere!
Only nose...not guitar
Any other campfire pickers out there?
Noel! Wow, humbled... thanks for joining our community! We did a “beach technical clinic” out at Ocean Shores in October; it was oddly beautiful, 70 degrees and clear skies. Hoping to see a few trips go on the calendar out that way. Shoot us a line if you have anything in the works! Be seein’ ya on the trail! Welcome!
Love those old Ts! Impressive that you've kept a 3VZ running this long :P Ever thought about swapping in a 5VZ?
We have quite a few members that will give you a run for you money on oldest ;)
Welcome from Olympia.
Welcome! I hope that you can join us on a trip soon.
