Gifford Pinchot Forest Exploration

For those able to depart on Friday, we’ll start from the Nike Outlet Store in Centralia at 12:00PM.

2nd rally point on Friday of the Randle gas station at 1:15 for any east side attendees.

 We’ll pass Tower Rock and climb to Burley Mountain Fire Lookout. From there, we’ll head down to Mosquito Meadows then turn left stopping at a few waterfalls as we make out way back to Forest Road 23. Time to stretch the legs for a short half mile hike to Camp Creek Falls. After that easy hike, we’ll continue east on FR 23 to FR 2324.  FR 2324 dead ends at the trailhead to Sunrise Peak.  We’ll camp here for the night.   (Anybody that wants to join but can’t get out early on Friday can meet us here) 46.33547, -121.74680

Hopefully fire restrictions aren’t in effect yet, but we’ll play that one by ear. I’m rallying around 4:00 am so I can be at Sunrise Peak by first light.  No obligation to join me, but of course you’re welcome.  I’ll have a pack with supplies to make coffee at the peak.  I believe it’s about a 3-4 mile hike round trip. After breaking down camp, we’ll make our way to Baby Shoe pass and follow the WABDR south. I have a spot on my map marked as “Epic View Campsite”. I marked it three years ago and don’t remember what it looks like.  My guess is a big landing with wide open view of Adams.  We’ll spend Saturday night there. Sunday we’ll finish the WABDR, air up the tires, and then head a few miles back up FR 65 to check out Panther Creek Falls.   From there, we’ll make our way down the Columbia to I-5 and home.
