I am starting a trip planning page for those planning or wanting to go on this day trip. Weather should be very warm!!! Bring LOTS of water or other hydration liquids. Bring trail snacks for all in your group. Vehicles should have good tires, extra fluids and a way to air down plus a way to air back up is not that big an issue as we will exit trails in Eburg close to the les schwab store! I am in the process of making arangments to have Wheel Line Cider open for us at the end of the day. She will hopefully be openning up specially for us, so it would be a nice thank you to her if we "suported" her business and took some of her product home with us! Any questions or sugestions welcome here and I will try to get them answered reguarding trip. I have NOT ran this trail, and as such am not sure exactly how long it should take, but hope to be finished sometime late afternoon. PLEASE try and be at the meet up point early so we get off to a good start.
VITAL INFORMATION YOU CAN USE & SHARE
We're looking forward to it Mark.
If its the same area I am thinking of we were there this weekend. It will b a blast!
Update on the Wheel line cidery.
I talked to the owner yesterday and she told me she is gone that weekend but has someone who can open up for us after hours. There is a $50 dollar fee, or, if we make purchases that total up to that amount, she will wave fee. Only problem is we have to be there from 5-7 PM. They will only open during those hours and I am not sure exactly what our time schedule will be. It's open for discussion here if yall want to try to be back or just put Cidery on hold.
ALSO, we are offering our property up to anyone on this trip to camp here sat night. We live apx 20 miles east of Ellensburg. We have 3 acres to camp on. We have a very provate outdoor shower area as well as the use of the bathroom in the house here. Just a sugestion, open to the group on this trip. We have a 360* view from the property here.
Chime in and let us know what anyone feels we should do.
Mark I say we make the run to the cidery, if you feel we have to leave earlier I am sure we can agree on a start time. Being its a Saturday in Summer we need to consider traffic on our route as well?
Long time member, but this is my first run with the NWOL group. I would love to see the map on where we are going! Cheers!
I second that. Mark can you send a route or some waypoints of where we anticipate to end up or close to the same? Would help to make an educated decision on the cidery. Thanks!
I'm ok with just the trail and no cidery, it's nice to not be rushed. but also ok with the group decision.
I am good with trail only too. Just a heads up, 2000 acres are on fire in Wenas right now. (Heavy amounts of lighting)
On the fire, we can see the smoke from here. I have seen at least 4 aircraft flying water to the fire right over our house! They are filling the smaller ones from Columbia river and larger planes from Moses lk I think.
Yes we were out Tuesday morning during the lightning and reported one sw of Thorp
I have the track on my online Gaia acct, but not sure how to publish it. I'm NOT confuser literate! LOL. I'll see what I can do. We leave from The thorp fruit stand and go south through the Menastash into the wenas and up to Eburg to exit on the menastash rd by Reinhart park.
Do any of those going use gaia? Maybe someone can help me figure how to share track here! 3603958759 is my cell. call and maybe you can help! LOL it's heck getting old and tech dummy!
I will try to reach out tomorrow. I use Gaia with little experience but sure we can figure it out.
Mark, you have two options to share your track using Gaia.
1. Make the track Public -
From the track page, click on the link "private track" to toggle it to "public track". Then you can copy the url and share it with anyone, and they will be able to see the track page. But this also allows anyone on Gaia to search and find this track, your decision on how widely you are comfortable sharing.
2. Download and share GPX file -
Just above the map, on the left is "Data". Click it and select GPX. This will generate and download the GPX file, which any of us can import into Gaia. I don't see how we can attach files here in this forum so you may have to email it to all of us.
I can call you later this morning too,
Nick

please let me know if these links work.
Worked perfectly.
@Nick Parsons Nice work Nick!
@Mark and Vicki Lennox I see it now! What are the trail conditions we are looking to expect? I am really looking forward to this.
I would expect lots of dust! It's been warm here, but we could see some light mud at higher elivations.
@Mark and Vicki Lennox Was in the area from 7/21- 7/23 and yes very dusty, little mud and lots of fun!
I talked to Marryanna at the cidery and decided to not do that on sat. Our trip will be too unpredictable time wise to tieher down. BUT,,,,,,, Anyone wanting to camp sat night here, the cidery will be open from noon to five on sunday. The tasting room will be open then.
I just checked the list of closed roads due to the "pipe line fire", and it looks like it really wont effect our trip at all!!! This apears to be good news, UNLESS there are more closures that I have not seen.
Nick, Can you send me your face book addy and I'll forward the info I have to you and maybe you can check against my route info here just to be sure. Paul, maybe you can too.
Just friended you. Gaia has a wildfire map layer, not sure how accurate it is but it looks like the Left Hand fire is hitting part of the route.
@Nick Parsons Would a call to the Forest Ranger office be wise about Thursday? It appears there is a route around it as well.

I routed this earlier today. Check it out' OOPS, I made it public. sorry
As of yesterday morning -
Closures: The Rock Creek Road (FSR 1702) and the Bald Mountain Road (FSR 1701) have been closed to allow firefighters unimpeded access to the fire area. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has temporarily closed approximately 5,000 acres of the southwest portion of the Oak Creek Wildlife area. For details of the closure area please visit: www.inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6456.
Hey Folks, won't know if I'm making this trip until later this week due to work (might have to host an open house in Yakima on Saturday) BUT ROADS 1701 and 1702 are CLOSED DUE to the LEFT HAND FIRE that we reported last Tuesday morning. More here- https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6456/
Just saw Hollis' post :)
A bypass could be along Manastash from Barber Springs down to Ellensburg Pass to Ellensburg
https://www.gaiagps.com/public/TszvBVlPY7etzbipJBoosaet
Another option could be depending on where 1701 is closed you could probably get to Cleman Mtn or Hog Ranch Rd. Why is EVERYTHING UNDERLINED?!?!
Hope you can free up Travis! Thanks for the information......
and to quickly elaborate this route has lots of views, and goes by the UW Observatory.
Lets all check out alt routes and put our heads together sat morning in thorp. We can kindof adlib it as we go. I am more than willing to be flexable. (kinda hard to flex much with arthritis in my back!)
Also there is a Town Hall on this fire in Naches tonight @6pm so we can hear little more about it. Yesterday it was 8% contained this morning was 15% hope of continued decent weather we wont have to worry.
As of 11 hours ago the fire is 26% contained. I think at this rate, and to respect our service members fighting the fire, we should stay clear. I wouldn't want to impede or complicate their efforts
Have the official road closure list. as of Noon today this is active.
