Hey everyone - let's start planning the full South to North WABDR run
Time: 0900 Friday August 16 until August 22 (roughly) - please note the change in start date
Meet-Up: Toll House Park on the Oregon side of Bridge of the Gods
Who: I've got five confirmed trucks (as of 7/31/19). Including 5 dogs (!).
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30659388?privacy_code=7O5xx1F6fuFZR8KU
Scenario: I'm personally planning on running the whole WABDR. If folks want to come and go off the route, that's fine with me. If you want to join the group later in the route, find my location here on this link and come meet us.

Vehicle Equipment: All-terrain rated tires are mandatory. Front and rear recovery points are mandatory. Bring a tow strap, snatch recovery strap and a 3/4 inch rated bow shackle. A full size spare tire is mandatory. A reliable, high clearance vehicle that you are familiar with is mandatory.
Communication: 2m Ham 146.460, if you are not licensed, let me know and we will sort it
Camping: In my experience, most of the good remote campsites on this route are 'dry', so bring a way to carry water.
Gas: There are plenty of towns with gas stations on and off the WABDR. I think the longest stretch with no gas is about 150 miles or so.

Wish I could manage this trip, however I am booked solid! Next year count me in!
Trudog, We are doing from Eburg to twisp in early sept if that works for you.
@Mark and Vicki Lennox Mark I will see you Vicki and Lucy next Saturday and in early September!
We are scheduled for Dans cook off, then we are doing WBDR from hiway 90 up to hwy 20 at twisp early sept. Too bad we cant combine them. Have fun n be safe.
Scott, thanks bunches for stepping up and heading up this trip!
Yes a huge shoutout to Scott for filling the void to make this one happen!
@Trudog Kitt ! I just now figured out that ‘Trudog’ is you ! Have a great Summer
We are planning on running the entire route. Our dog Spike (bichon frise) will also tag along.
Thanks to Scott for stepping up to make this trip a reality.
We are out of Edmonds, would anyone be interested in driving south in a caravan?
I'm going to drive down Thursday night - feel free to hit me up if you want to drive down
Scott we are going to do the same, drive down Thursday evening. I will DM you my cell phone number so we can suss it out. Thanks! Kevin
Okay - I'm thinking about camping at Marine Park campground very close by. Quiet place, I've camped there before.
Just booked a site at Marine Park. We'll head down Thursday night too, not sure what time yet.
Reservation number if you need it - 509.637.6911
I've reserved a spot for myself at Marine Park CG and will be headed down from Seattle approx. 2PM on Thursday 8/15. I'm happy to rally with anybody that wants to leave around that time. Can't wait to get the hell out of this town for a while.
Hi Scott, we reserved camping spot # 14. We will rally down there with you. We are in Edmonds, let's meet up and get out of dodge around 2.
I sent you a FB message about Meetup in Seattle before heading South on Thursday
Hey we found a decent spot to camp off section 4. Antilon Lake Campground it's a bit off the trail but there are two ways to get back on the trail one that I tested. The other is untested. Happy to send GPS if you guys want.
Regret that we procrastinated on this too long and ended up on the wait list. We may try to run this in a week or two solo and tow our 16' offroad trailer.
Appreciate it if folks would note any conditions (washouts, limbs down, bypasses, 3-point switchbacks etc) that might preclude running this with a trailer and reply back here afterwards or in a PM. Thanks.
Have fun!
Let me know how it goes with that big trailer - I can tell you that the partially repaired but very narrow Beehive washout might be a nail biter with a big trailer.
Will do.
@Joe Koegler You'd definitely want to take all the alternate routes. Bethel Ridge, Beehive washout, Jungle are all probably impossible without damage. There are also a dozen or so switch backs sprinkled throughout that will give you a real hard time, more than a few would probably require unhitching and repositioning the truck. Plus you'll have several occasions of needing to make room for oncoming vehicles on very tight sections and the inevitable turn-arounds from missed turns.
Unfortunately I have to drive down on Friday morning from Seattle and meet you at the rally point @ 9am. Can't wait to get out of the city!

Doing my due-diligence route research today - the only WABDR issue at this time is the Left Hand Fire which is basically 100% contained but still under official road closure at the junction of Highway 410 and NF 1701 (Rocky Flat Road). NF-1701 and NF-1711 (the WABDR) climbs up Clemans Canyon and gets us (eventually) up top to Manashtash Ridge and onto to Ellensburg.

Reading through the ADV forums (https://advrider.com/f/threads/wabdr-washington-backcountry-discovery-route-2015.1056151/page-252) it appears that a moto rider recently went around the 'NF 1701 closed' sign after permission from Forest Service. So this closure might be unofficially lifted. When we get to the spot, if it remains closed - we can proceed onto Highway 12 and get up onto Manashtash Ridge from the East side using the route below...

Or we can can head up Garrett Canyon Road off of Highway 410, but I've never been on it.
See you Friday !

Nice work Scott! We are NWOL the Ranger Station may make an exception and give the team a pass? A member of ours called in the left hand fire the morning it started, might be good for something?
Count me in for next years run on the WABDR! Let’s take two weeks and do Oregon as well? A bad day in the woods is better then a great day at work!
