WRENCHING - HOW TO

24/12 Step Down Converter

Hi Guys, I just sold the 4Runner and will be picking up a 89 Nissan Patrol next week.

The Patrol has a TD42 in line diesel and runs on a 24v system. I'm looking for a step down converter so I can run a few things like comms, lights, gps etc... any suggestions on what I should be looking for? I'm not sure how these things work and could use any advice you have to offer.

Thanks in advance

I use a 12v to 12v battery charger for my auxiliary systems. the same company makes a 24v to 12v charger too. It’s not cheap, but it does a very good job and is adaptable to many battery types. You could use a small SLA battery and an ignition controlled relay to help regulate and provide good power to any 12v communications equipment. For lights, I *think* a lot of the LED bars are compatable wIth 24v systems.

Here is a link to the charger (likely availible cheaper other places): http://www.sterling-power-usa.com/ProCharge-B-waterproof-dcinput-battery-charger-24volt-12volt.aspx
