Hi All, Recently, I have been working with an Australian company, APG (Auto Pacific Group) and one of their brands, Rola. Rola makes a product called the Titan Tray. This is a direct competitor to Front Runner and Rhino Rack. They are looking to penetrate the North American market and we will be helping them with some exposure to assisting in this effort. As I get the Defender situated, I will be sharing the install process and resultant factors of the benefits of the Titan Tray product. Here are some preliminary pics of the product before the unboxing. Danno. This should be a fun buildup! DC

Well, with much deliberation and waiting over two months, I decided to pull the trigger on a 1993 Land Rover Defender 110 purchase. This vehicle was brought into the USA two years ago from the Netherlands. It's a LHD with a 200 Tdi turbo diesel. I will probably use this for a new business venture that is currently in the works. This Defender is super clean and healthy. I will start combing through the driveline and powerplant to make sure its all healthy. Then at some point, begin the interior buildout. Very exciting! The previous owner and I the day of the car carrier pickup. The 360 walkaround before loading it up! The vehicle load up process... Loaded and strapped up. Ready to roll! Off she goes! Pocatello, ID - Gig Harbor, WA. Last night's arrival at Defenders Northwest in Gig harbor. We let he dry out last night and will begin the inspection this weekend. Stay tuned for more!! Danno

We headed up Swakane Canyon just North of Wenatchee and met up with some great friends and the weather was cooperative but COLD! I think it got down to 11 degrees at one point. The true "Die Hards" braved the weather, some decided it was too much for them and headed into Leavenworth to try their luck and karaoke. All in all, a ton of fun with the group. Hope to see more faces next year! Creative lumber work by Kim & Mark! Yeti does exist! Oh, wait.... It's just the Jeep. Now we're cooking! Selective yellow mode, engaged! Moving out. It's party time in Leavenworth!

What started out as an inspiration from my friend, Tony Haynes, became a reality last week, as 30 intrepid Northwest Overlanders embarked on a trip of a lifetime into the Highlands and glaciers of Iceland's jagged and barren Southern region. A year of planning in the works and departure day came on Friday, September 9th. I was packed and ready to roll with a full suitcase filled with adventure attire and a cardboard box filled with the attendees credentials and swag. Off to the airport, where one of our attendees, Brady Knowles and I boarded Iceland Air flight 1680 non-stop to Keflavik International! The flight was super quiet s it should be, I mean, after all it was the middle of the night and all these people should be sleeping for Pete's sake! Once we got in the air, it was pretty much a smooth flight. Time to rest... Once we were airborne, It started to really sink in that after a year of planning, this trip was finally happening. I mean, we re talking about 15 Zoom video calls, 87 emails, and 157 text messages and here we are. It felt really good knowing that all this effort was finally paying off. And I was stoked! About three quarters the way through the flight, we flew over Greenland. Now, Greenland is more ice cap than "Green" as there is no real soil for crop growing. Like Iceland, any and all production of food products is done over land or in the sea. As you can see in this video, below, the topography is fairly unforgiving, but incredibly amazing... More Greenland topography. Keep in mind, the area we are flying over is completely uninhabitable. Let that sink in... One more for good measure... An aerial view from my seat.. Once we landed in Reykjavik, you get your bus ticket for the Fly Bus to drop you off at the bus transfer station. Very painless and it's about a 45 minute ride from the Keflavik Airport to downtown Reykjavik. Once off the bus, I headed to my VRBO. A brand new 2 BR apartment. Stunning modern interior and located right near the waterfront. After a 2 hour power nap, I met up with our crew in the downtown area. It was a lot of fun. Great group of folks. Once we got to the downtown area, we were greeted with an amazing sunset. It was great to see folks out and about in the streets enjoying the last evenings of the Summer... Sunset... The next morning, out shuttle bus picked us all up at Bus Stop #3 in downtown Reykjavik. We mad our way to the vehicle compound, were assigned drivers and vehicles and made our way out on to the open road. First stop was The Continental Divide, where the Eurasian tectonic plate cleaves away from the North American plate at a rate of about 3 cm per year. That's about as fast as the growth of one's fingernails... Here you can see the Eurasian Plate on the left and the North American Plate on the right. It goes right through the middle of Iceland... Below, you can see Iceland right in the middle of Greenland and the United Kingdom. The plate's divide gor right through the center of Iceland. After visiting the Big Cleave, we headed directly off road. We found a great spot to air down, so air down we did! Here Sunny and one of our guides, Steinar facilitate airing down our Land Rover, ISAK 2. We were sort of poo pooing the idea of taking a powerline road out into the tundra, but it turned out to be an amazing drive. We followed the road for about 30 or so miles. It started to feel very moon like on the drive, as some of the following pictures reveal... Tranquility Base.... Our tail gunner, Steinar. We ride into the valley... A random road sign post in the middle of nowhere Iceland... The glacier doesn't move the mountain, it goes around it... The Hillbilly Fleet.. Another quick pit stop, then on to our first water crossing! Here we go! Feet wet! Prepare to dive!! Jon, Melissa, Kathy and Dean in the deeps! Back onto the dust trail, headed for first night's stay at the Volcano Huts! Another gnarly section of road would provide another opportunity for airing down. Our vehicle, ISAK 2 aka. Team "Brady Bunch" consisted of myself, Brady Knowles and Sunny Freeman. Below, is Team Dirt Lifestyle. Consisting of Nate and Jessica Pickel, Michael Flores and Blana Torres. Today's objective; circumnavigate Mýrdalsjökull ice cap in the south of Iceland. It is to the north of Vík í Mýrdal and to the east of the smaller ice cap Eyjafjallajökull. Between these two glaciers is Fimmvörðuháls pass. Its peak reaches 1,493 m in height and in the year 1980 it covered an area of approximately 595 km². An aerial photo of the ice cap... One of the first gorges we stumbled upon... A closer look at the waterfall in the upper left of the picture above. Then a pano of the entire gorge. Next, we were off to Emstruleið area of the ice cap. This road was made up of all finely ground volcanic rock sand. It was pretty unreal... The Hillbilly Lineup... I spy the aft end of a super Defender! Our trusty steed for The Brady Bunch, ISAK 2. An incredible moss covered caldera. Video Credit, Tony Haynes. You can't deny, Iceland has 4 major colors on the terra firma; Blue, Green, Black and White... A random hill near the ice cap... These hills were very typical near the ice cap, as is stays very lush and moist throughout the year due to meilt water from the glaciers. Hop in and take a ride with us! Video Credit, Tony Haynes. More of the insane black sand field near the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. Video Credit, Tony Haynes. More to come!!

I want to resurrect what used to be known as The Northwest Overland Society Advisors Group. The NWOL Advisory Council will be a team of NWOL members and leader that will convene monthly to discuss ideas and topics that will help me do a better job leading this community in a more enriched direction. I have tried my best to lead by example, but as of late, I feel I am letting our community down by not having a collaborative team of leaders and experienced adventurers to help guide what we have built over the years into a better and more valuable asset for our members to lean on. Some areas that I would like the Council to focus on are: * Monthly Meetups and Events * Group and individual training opportunities * End of year member award nominations and ceremonies * Member of the month spotlight * Member rig spotlight * Content for the monthly newsletter * General tossing around of new ideas What the members of the Advisory Council will get in return: * Advisory member acknowledgement on NWOL home page * Free membership * Free swag * Exclusive invites to Advisory Council retreats and gatherings * I would be open to some of your ideas on this as well In a nutshell, I have been over committing myself to my full time job, running our Air Bnb, running my side hustle design and engineering lab, managing life and the challenges that come with it. It's a lot and I need help. I am really hoping to get some involvement here, some help with this community. I'd hate to have to shut it down due to me not seeing it dying on the vine and not doing anything about it. So, I am doing something about it. If you feel you would like to be considered for the Northwest Overland Advisory Council, please send me your submission to my personal email : dan@northwestoverland.com Thank you in advance. DC

It started with a plan to do out Trans-Nevada-Trek 2022 Adventure. Sadly, some participants got sick, had vehicle issues and had some family health crisis that prevented them from attending. I already had the scheduled days off, so i decided to go out solo. Day one was a quick jaunt to my office to pic up some product for a potential new customer, @superpacific USA. They are a pickup topper insert manufacturer based in Portland, OR. Very cool product, I encourage you to check them out... I then headed down to my best friend's place in Cottage Grove Orego for the night, We go WAY back to Middle School. So to say the least we had a great evening together. Today, I made my way to McKenzie Pass Scenic Bypass and came acreoss the most amazing sight. An observatory made from volcanic rock! Pictures tomorrow! Danno

We have decided to sell our super comfortable Autohome Airtop Black Storm Roof Top Tent. This particular tent is a small and fits two normal sized adults, comfortably. This is the Black Storm model (ATB/01). Link to tent information: https://www.autohomeus.com/roof-top-tents/air-top/ The size of the tent is as follows: Exterior: 51"W x 83"L x 12"H Mattress: 48w X 80"L X 3.2"H Open Height: 36" (Mattress to ceiling, tallest) Weight: 119 lbs. I had this tent wrapped with a topographic protective cover by Die Cut Stickers in Tukwila, WA. The buyer is welcome to keep it on or it can be easily removed at your discretion. The wrap cost $875. This tent has no damage to it. It has no leaks in it and unusually low wear. We are reconfiguring our camp setup. Otherwise we would keep this tent. No other reason. It's a great tent that is waterproof, airy in the Summer, strong in the windy months and warm in the Winter. The tent does come with a telescoping ladder. No awning or annex included. MSRP on a brand new model is $4199 plus shipping. We are selling for $3000. Local in Tacoma, WA. Please send all inquiries to contact@northwestoverland.com. Here is a short video of the interior.

One of my favorite videographers and movie short story tellers is German born, Vincent Urban. Urban is best known for his series of video shorts you can find on Vimeo, YouTube and Slim called, “In …” Where “…” represents any random country name. Vincent has done many projects including a small project he has produced for Lufthansa Airlines call #LifeChangingPlaces. By far, my favorite In … episode is “In Russia” Where he captures a very frosty “Cold War” feel in the beginning of the short and warms it up a bit towards the end with the Russian people opening up with a sense of humanity and a genuine smile. Check it out!

Wow, just wow. What a great trip this was and so many awesome people too! This year, we decided to have the WSBF North of Wenatchee up a small canyon called Swakane. Just the right amount of snow to make it amazingly beautiful and to get a few of the attendees a run for their money. Only a few got stuck, but it made for some fun exercise. We headed out on Sautrday AM after meeting up with a few members in North Bend. And hey, what's an adventure without a little traffic over the Pass? A quick stop at 97 The Rock for a quick snack and body refuel. L-R, Richard, Rick & Dan Dan & Richard setting off into the canyon. After a little slick hill climb coaching, Dan gets a ride back to his Jeep from Richard. Now, it was the new Defender's turn! MaxTrax FTW! Ahhh, Tranquility Base. Nick and his travel partner prepping some amazing filet mignon for dinner. The Vision X Unite Series Light Bar is simply amazing... Celebrating the return to the sun! Trying out the new Vision X Selective Yellow lenses on the 4.7 CG2 Cannons. Time to air up. All in all, this was a great weekend with fun people. Thanks, everyone that attended. See you next December for WSBF2022! Dan
